Preloading funds

Preloading lets you add your own money to your Capital on Tap account, increasing the amount you have available to spend.

Your available spending is the combination of your available credit limit and any preloaded funds.

For example, if you have £5,000 of available credit and preload £2,000, you will have £7,000 available to spend.

There is no limit to the amount you can preload.

Before you start

Before you can preload funds, you must sign an e-money agreement.

On the web portal:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Go to Your account.
  3. Click Rates and contracts.
  4. Follow the steps to sign the e-money agreement.

On the app:

  1. Log in to the app.
  2. Go to Settings in the top right-hand corner.
  3. Tap the black box labelled "want to go beyond your credit limit".
  4. Follow the steps to sign the e-money agreement.

Once the agreement has been signed, you can start preloading immediately.

How to preload funds

You can add funds in one of two ways:

Bank transfer

Transfers must be made from the business bank account linked to your Capital on Tap account.

To find your transfer details:

  1. Log in to the web portal.
  2. Go to Payments.
  3. Select One-off payment details.
  4. Select Transfer to Capital on Tap.
  5. Copy the bank details and make the transfer from your linked business bank account.

Important: Delete any previously saved Capital on Tap bank details before making a transfer. Using old bank details could delay or prevent your funds from being credited.

Transfer from a Capital on Tap Savings Account

If you have a Capital on Tap Savings Account, you can transfer funds directly to your account by either:

  • Selecting Transfer from your Savings dashboard, or
  • Going to Payments and selecting From Capital on Tap Savings Account.

 When will my funds arrive?

Bank transfers usually appear on your account within 2 business hours.

If your funds haven't arrived after 2 business hours, contact Capital on Tap Support through the app or online portal.

To help us investigate, have the following information ready:

  • The date, time and amount of the transfer.
  • The bank account details you sent the funds to.

You may also need to check with your bank that:

  • The payment has been sent successfully.
  • The funds have left your account.
  • The payment isn't awaiting approval or security checks.
  • Your account hasn't reached a transfer limit.

What happens if I have an outstanding balance?

Any funds you transfer are first used to pay off any outstanding balance on your account.

Any remaining funds are then held as your preloaded balance.

Cashback on preloaded spending

Pro customers

Eligible purchases made using preloaded funds earn 1.25% cashback:

  • 1% standard cashback.
  • 0.25% additional preloading bonus.

The additional 0.25% bonus is paid weekly and appears in your rewards history as Preloading Bonus.

Standard customers

Eligible purchases earn 1% cashback, including purchases made using preloaded funds.

Cashback is applied automatically once your transaction has cleared.

Are my preloaded funds protected?

Preloaded funds are treated as e-money and safeguarded in accordance with the Electronic Money Regulations.

Because Capital on Tap isn't a bank, preloaded funds aren't protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

Instead, your funds are held in a safeguarded bank account. This means they remain separate from Capital on Tap's own money and can be returned to you if Capital on Tap becomes insolvent or stops trading.

How do I withdraw preloaded funds?

You can transfer preloaded funds back to your linked business bank account at any time.

  • If Drawdown is available on your account, you can use it to transfer your preloaded funds. No interest is charged as long as the transfer doesn't exceed your preloaded balance.
  • If Drawdown isn't available, contact Capital on Tap Support through the app or online portal to request a refund.

Funds can only be returned to the linked business bank account on your account.

Can I opt out of preloading?

Yes. You can ask Capital on Tap Support to remove preloading from your account at any time.

Before preloading is removed, any remaining preloaded balance will be returned to your linked business bank account.
